… as expected, it was a very fine day with much accomplished and many friends added to the joy. Tomorrow, provided it comes, will be a delight as well and looking forward to a day of rain … that could lead to listening to Max’s advice 🙂 Naw, I’ll find an excuse!
The shot above captures Quinn. a dark morph Ferruginous Hawk as he cruises low above the high desert in search of a rabbit, squirrel or other source of food. Unlike Red Tails and other soaring hawks and falcons the Ferruginous, Harris’s and other raptors cruise low over fields so that when they spot prey ahead of them, a short descent puts talons and prey together. He is only doing about 20 mph which still covers a lot of ground.
Below is a view of the Sedona area that is unique. I was at 8,125′ several miles E and S of the Village when I took the shot. Looking to the N and on the left side of the photo you can see the community of Pine Valley and about mid center Jacks Canyon takes an abrupt 90 degree turn towards the NW. The red rock formation at the end of the line is Lees Mountain, following the mountain N inside the canyon, after the green area next to the red rocks Munds Mountain begins and it is on the uppermost portion of Munds Mountain that the fire has been burning the past week or so. Jacks Canyon empties into the large canyon above uptown with Oak Creek Canyon, Munds Canyon and more. The airport is visible just above Lees Mountain and on the horizon, left to right Bill Williams Mountain, moving to the right Sitgreaves Mountain and Kendrick Peak … the red rock area is not very large!
Time to wrap the day … have a beautiful day!
The green of all the fields is mine,
The stars, the night, the wind at play,
A peaceful heart, while quietly
I go my way.
