… and the new is a Greenhead Mallard in flight that looks just like the one that passed Corky and me on a flight back from the Grand Canyon on day when we were just kind of lollygagging our way back home to Sedona at 10,000′ … we were flying at about 50 to 60 knots and this greenhead passed us on the right side about 15 feet off the wingtip. Creatures that fly and machines that we fly in always rank high on my list of amazing things.
Below is an early fall shot of the western ridgeline of the San Francisco Peaks … no snow and lots of greenery. On the left side of the photo is Humphreys Peak which at 12,637′ is the highest point in the state of Arizona … I was just over 12,000′ when I took this shot. Agassiz Peak is just off the right side of the image and you can see part of Snowbowl. The triangle shaped peak on the right behind the western ridgeline is Fremont Peak and left of that is Doyle Peak. You can see the trail going up the ridgeline to Humphreys Peak. Just about dead center is Sunset Crater and it looks like we have some weak anti crepuscular rays coming down near the center. There are 75 major avalanche zones on the peaks so it is good to be cautious anytime you are hiking there. A map of the avalanche zones can be seen by clicking here.
Into the weekend for me and what a wonderful one it will be with my youngest daughter here for a week long visit … many places to visit and do. Keep breathing and smile … life is such a precious gift so enjoy it whilst you have it!
Cheers,
Ted
So each one to his wish, and for me,
I sit tonight and wait
To find the answers to my soul in me,
And in the beauty of the sky and sea.
