Peg Schlichtemeier founded Verde Valley First Books a local non-profit organization that provides early literacy education and books to 3 and 4 year-olds living in the Verde Valley. Peg passed away suddenly a year ago after a short battle with Leukemia. The Board of Directors of Verde Valley First Books are honoring Peg on Friday February 11th at the Sedona Public Library in the Village at 10:30 am. 35 books will be donated to the Sedona Public Library for the youth services department with a commemorative book plate in Peg’s honor.

Peg was an incredible individual who utilized her talent and treasure to ensure that 3 and 4 year-olds living in the Verde Valley have age appropriate books in their homes. Thanks to Peg’s leadership over 500 children are receiving books and being read to each month. Her vision continues today with volunteers delivering books to 25 area preschools every month. The books are read to the children as a group and each child is given a copy to take home.

Verde Valley First Books has established an endowment to continue Peg’s vision of educating and inspiring our local preschoolers. Tax deductible contributions can be sent to VVFB, 1155 Verde Valley School Road, Sedona, AZ 86351.
