Camp Verde Community Children’s Library invites community members to an after-hours reception and viewing of the community art mural the children have worked on this summer. Join us Tuesday, July 19 between 6:30p and 8:30p to see the fabulous underwater ocean scene. Meet local artist, Mary Rush, who got us started by painting the background that inspired the children to create sea creatures to add to it throughout the summer. We are building up to the finished project which must be seen after sundown under black lights to get the full effect.

“The children have had a blast creating ocean art using fluorescent, glow-in-the-dark paint,” said Children’s Library Specialist, Ms. Letty. “They are excited to invite family members, friends, and community members to see what they have done. We will be showing the movie, Disney’s Sacred Planet in the Terracotta Room. Families are welcome to come and go or stay and enjoy the movie and popcorn together.”

The Children’s Library has seen a lot of activity this summer with 168 children registered and participating in the 2022 Summer Reading Program, Oceans of Possibilities. In June over 80 children attended weekly STREAM Hour with retired teacher, Sally Epperson’s enriching lessons on Science-Coral Reefs, Technology-Lighthouses, River-Verde River, Engineering-Decoding, Art-Sun catcher, and Math-Ocean Fathoms. Thursday morning story time has grown to the point that it was moved from the Children’s Library early reading corner to the Terracotta Room. “It has been a wonderful experience to see the summer reading program so successful for families of our community,” said Ms. Letty.

The Library is located just off of Montezuma Castle Highway at 130 N Black Bridge Road in Camp Verde. For more information about this program, contact Letty Ancira at 928-554-8387 or leticia.ancira@campverde.az.gov
