Belfry Brewery in Old Town Cottonwood: Beer in a 1920s Church

Belfry Brewery is a brewpub and grill inside a restored 1920s church at 791 N Main Street, at the edge of Old Town Cottonwood, Arizona. It brews 15 of its own beers on site and serves a full lunch and dinner menu in an upstairs dining room, a taproom and a beer garden.

The Building

Locals knew the building as “The Green Church on the Corner,” and the brewery’s own history page says it has been a Cottonwood landmark since the 1920s. The brewery’s Instagram profile describes it as an old Baptist church, and Arizona Highways dates the construction to 1928. The bell tower that gives the place its name had been torn down when the church was deconsecrated. Owner Robert Conlin told Arizona Highways that the restoration rebuilt the belfry and hung a 36 inch church bell cast in Michigan in 1901, and that the whole project took seven years. Belfry Brewery opened in October 2020.

The brewhouse sits in the middle of the building, with the tanks visible from the taproom and dining areas. Upstairs is the dining room with a full bar. Downstairs is the taproom and the beer garden, which has a stage and two patios.

Beer and Food

The rotating tap list runs to 15 house beers. On the October 2026 list: Batty Blonde (4.7% ABV, $6), El Diablo Mexican lager ($6), Honey Pecan brown ale brewed with Arizona pecan honey ($7.50), Hopknocker IPA (7.0% ABV, $7.50), Nutcracker Porter ($6.50), A Witty Belgian witbier ($6.50), McKillion’s Irish Red ($6.50), The Holy Oat oatmeal stout (6.7% ABV, $7.50), a Belgian style dubbel called Giantsbane at 12.5% ABV ($9), a blackberry and cherry kettle sour ($7.50), and a gluten free blackberry seltzer ($6.50). Flights are available on request.

The kitchen describes itself as classic brewpub fare meets New American grill, with a family connection to Bobby D’s BBQ in Jerome. The menu is built around Detroit style pizzas ($16.99 to $21.99, serves one or two), 7 oz hand pressed steakburgers ($15.49 to $18.99, with parmesan fries or coleslaw), and sandwiches such as a cod po’boy, a Reuben made with house smoked pastrami, and a Southwest ribeye dip ($14.99 to $18.99). After 5 pm the Old Town Sizzlers come out on cast iron skillets: BBQ meatloaf, sirloin with mushrooms, salmon with Thai basil sauce and a half slab of Bobby D’s baby back ribs ($19.99 to $28.99). Specialties include beer battered Alaskan cod ($21.99), brisket tacos and chicken marsala, and there are salads, French onion soup in a bread boule, share plates such as a pound of smoked wings ($14.99) and a Bavarian pretzel with beer queso, plus desserts. A short brunch menu (two egg breakfast, brisket tacos, breakfast burger) runs from 10 am to noon, which in practice means Saturday and Sunday. A 20% service fee may be added for parties of six or more.
