Javelina Cantina

Javelina Cantina is the Hillside restaurant with the view: a red rock terrace and an Arizona patio room above State Route 179, a dog-friendly patio with its own four-item Fur Friends menu, and a bar built around tequila. Proprietor Sheena Curl, with more than 26 years in Sedona hospitality, bought the restaurant and added a plant-based menu developed with vegan chef Eileen Elizabeth, margarita flights from bar manager John Moloney, and an expanded happy hour. The dining room seats 145 and the patio 26, and the kitchen caters groups up to 200.

What to Order

• Fabulous Fajitas. Served on a sizzling skillet and sized for two hungry people: chicken $25, marinated beef tenderloin $28, shrimp $28, garden vegetable $24, or any two mixed for $44.
• Tacos. Fish tacos and Baja shrimp tacos at $22, carne asada street tacos $24, tacos al pastor $25, and quesabirrias at $30.
• Chef Ramos’s mango ceviche ($20) to start, or the Javelina bean dip ($11).
• Margaritas. The house Javelina margarita is $11 regular or $15 grande. For the Grand Marnier builds, order the O.G. with 1800 reposado ($15 and $20), De Jalisco with Casamigos ($17 and $24) or the Mazarati with Tres Generaciones anejo ($17 and $24). Flights run $21 and $24. The Cadillac margarita of years past is no longer on the menu by that name; the O.G. is the equivalent.

Happy Hour and Weekly Deals

Happy hour runs 3 to 6 p.m. seven days a week in the bar only: $2 off Javelina margaritas, well cocktails and bottled or draft beer including local brews, $2 off house wine by the glass and $5 off the bottle, with bean dip at $9, jalapeno poppers $9, cheese crisp $12, queso $14 and nachos $17. On the weekly calendar: Margarita Monday with $7 house margaritas from 11 to 6, Taco Tuesday with $2.50 tacos and Tostada Thursday with $2.50 tostadas, both 11 to 6 with a beverage purchase.

Good to Know

• Hours: Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 to 9, Sunday 11 to 8:30.
• Reservations for parties of 14 or fewer go through OpenTable; 15 or more email the restaurant.
• Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free menus are separate tabs, not afterthoughts.
• DoorDash delivery is offered if you would rather eat at the hotel.
• Hillside’s lot is free and shared with The Hudson next door; it fills on weekend evenings around six.
