El Rincon opened in Tlaquepaque in April 1976 and calls itself the oldest family-owned and operated restaurant in Sedona, which makes 2026 its fiftieth year. It is also the place that coined “Arizona-style Mexican”: traditional Mexican cooking crossed with Navajo influences, which in practice means fry bread does a lot of the work. The tables sit inside the village’s stone walls or out on a covered patio under the sycamores, with an outdoor bar in the Patio de las Campanas that pours during Tlaquepaque’s courtyard events.
What to Order
- Navajo pizza. The house signature: a hand-rolled sopapilla crust topped with the kitchen’s red or green chile, in small or medium sizes. It is the dish to try first if you have never eaten here.
- Sopapilla chimichangas. Hand-rolled sopapilla masa wrapped around carne asada, machaca beef, chicken or tiger shrimp and deep fried. The fruit chimichanga is the dessert version.
- Margaritas. The restaurant has marketed its margaritas as number one in Sedona since the 1970s. Order one on the patio and judge for yourself.
The Chamber lists the price band as $10 to $19 for most plates. El Rincon does not publish its menu prices on a site we could read, so confirm current prices when you sit down.
Good to Know
- Lunch and dinner daily. Hours have historically run from 11 a.m. into the early evening; call ahead for the day’s closing time, which shifts by season.
- Reservations are recommended, by phone. There is no online booking system.
- About 40 seats inside and 32 on the covered patio, so the patio fills on fall and spring evenings.
- Pet friendly, per the Sedona Chamber listing. Ask for a patio table.
- Live entertainment on the village calendar: through October, Flamenco in the Courtyard runs Sunday through Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 with drinks from El Rincon’s outdoor bar.
- Tlaquepaque’s free lot fills by about 6 p.m. on weekend evenings; the creekside entrance is the closest door.
