Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel

Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel, opened in February 2023 on West 89A as something Sedona had not seen: 40 freestanding glass “atriums” raised on steel above the juniper and chaparral, each 576 square feet inside with a private rooftop terrace of the same size, a daybed and a fire pit up top, and floor-to-ceiling bronzed glass for 180-degree views of the red rocks. It is adults only, 18 and over per the hotel’s own FAQ, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, and it holds two Michelin Keys. Conde Nast Traveler put it on the 2023 Hot List as the only Arizona property, and AFAR named it among the best hotels of 2024.

The Atriums

Four types: Star, Creekside, Reflections and Landscape, all with a king bed, a two-person Hinoki soaking tub, a walk-in shower with dual rain heads, a towel warmer, Byredo amenities and in-room air purification. Two Creekside atriums are fully accessible. Rates are not published outside the booking engine; national coverage has reported nightly rates from around $999, and the hotel charges no resort fee. Breakfast for two at Forty1, the non-alcoholic minibar, pool and spa access, a Lexus guest shuttle and valet parking are included. A 50 percent deposit is due at booking and the balance 14 days out; cancellations inside 14 days forfeit the total.

Forty1 and Velvet Spa

  • Forty1, under Executive Chef Brianna Barker, serves breakfast 7 to 10:30 for hotel guests only, then lunch 10:30 to 5 and dinner 5 to 9 with limited reservations for non-guests through OpenTable. Resort casual. The reserve wine program has Wine Spectator recognition. Read our date night review of Forty1.
  • Velvet Spa takes outside visitors as well as guests: facials from $220 to $295, rooftop reiki and cranial add-ons, oxygen-infused soaking baths, the vibro-acoustic sound bed in the Dark Sky Lounge, and massages of 60 to 110 minutes priced on the spa menu. A 22 percent service charge applies and cancellations inside 48 hours are charged in full. (928) 239-4446.

Good to Know

  • Pets are welcome per the FAQ, with a $250 deep-cleaning charge, no cats; check at booking, since the atriums page says otherwise.
  • Check-in 4, check-out 11. Reservations office hours are weekdays 8 to 4 and weekends 8 to 1.
  • The property was bought in 2016 by Michael Stevenson and is run by his family, including daughters Jennifer May and Colleen TeBrake.
