Mercer’s Kitchen

Mercer’s Kitchen is the restaurant group behind four of Sedona’s best-known dining rooms, and the catering and events company that runs weddings and private parties out of them. Chef Mercer Mohr founded it in 2015 after selling his previous West Coast restaurant group, and it now holds Creekside American Bistro at the Y, Mesa Grill at the airport, Rascal Modern Diner at The Wilde Resort, and Rene at Tlaquepaque, which it took over in 2022.

The Chef

Mohr trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and came up through Hyatt’s culinary program, opening restaurants for Hyatt across the country, then served as executive chef at the Four Seasons Clift in San Francisco and opened properties for Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Omni, Rock Resorts, Vail Resorts and the Camelback Inn. As corporate executive chef of Tsar Nicoulai Caviar he opened its San Francisco cafe. His awards include a James Beard Foundation recognition in 2002, ACF San Francisco Chef of the Year, and a National Hotel Chef of the Year for menu design. He bought Creekside sight unseen from San Francisco in 2008 and moved to Sedona.

Weddings, Events and Catering

The group plans and caters weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate meetings, anniversaries and private parties, with menus built to the theme and budget, and it has venues of its own at each restaurant:

• The Lawn and Fire Pit at Mesa Grill: up to 150 guests, with seating for 100, and the airport mesa sunset as the backdrop.
• The View at Creekside: up to 50, overlooking Oak Creek and the red rocks.
• Rascal’s private dining rooms: 40 and 20 seats, at The Wilde.
• Rene: the indoor dining room or the Tlaquepaque courtyard.

Off-site catering runs from passed hors d’oeuvres to plated dinners. Pricing is by proposal; start with the inquiry form on the group’s website or call the events line.
